The Graduate School of Engineering and the Faculty of Engineering take pride in their heritage as one of the seminal institutions of engineering education and research in Japan. Founded in 1886 (the 19th year of Meiji) the department was initially the Engineering Sector of the Imperial University and included seven faculties.
There are 2000 undergraduates, 1600 students in Master's course and 1070 students in the Doctorate course. There are 315 professors, associate professors, lecturers and 254 research associates instructing day and night.
The responsibilities of an educator of engineering are diversified. We constantly strive to educate sophisticated people equipped with the basics of engineering as well as a knowledge of their role and meaning in society. We educate people to have a wide and international perspective and to be capable of supporting the future of science and technology.
